How good is No7’s new Future Renew range?

7 October 2024

How good is No7’s new Future Renew range?

Boots own brand No7 doesn’t really need any introduction. It’s been a British beauty classic for over 80 years and even if you’ve never tried it yourself you’ll recognise it on the bathroom shelves of your mum, aunt, grandma and friends. When we heard the new Future Renew range took 15 years to develop we were naturally curious. Apparently we weren’t the only ones as the five-month supply sold out in a day.

Dubbed ‘Botox in a bottle’ by many beauty fans, the four-product range features a new ‘super peptide’ technology which the brand says is a world first. The technology targets signs of skin damage, ‘including poor skin texture, uneven skin tone, lack of skin firmness, dullness, dryness, fine lines and wrinkles.’ Mike Bell, Head of Research at No7. Is this the answer to the days we forget to apply sunscreen, neglect our skincare routines, stay up late, drink and live life to the fullest? Three R29ers took the opportunity to test these claims by swapping their usual skincare routines for No7’s Future Renew range for two months. Read on to find out more about their progress. Review after two months of use I ran out of my favourite product from the range – Future Renew Night Cream, £34.95 – a few weeks ago, but I’m sure it will still give me some use. While it didn’t do much to reduce the wrinkles on my forehead, it did help a bit with the fine lines under my eyes. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: skin texture is perfectly normal and ageing is a privilege, but I love experimenting with make-up and it often collects in those tiny wrinkles. I probably notice these changes more than others. No one else can get that close! To be honest, I wasn’t impressed with the other products in the Future Renew range, so I switched to another moisturiser: Vichy Minéral 89 72hr Moisture Boosting Cream, £22. In my opinion, it’s just as good – and cheaper. This

The texture is a gel-cream, but it’s rich enough to deeply moisturize and keep the skin beautifully hydrated. Just like No7, it doesn’t bother me and goes on seamlessly with makeup. If you want to spend less, this is a good option.

Like No7 Night Cream, it also contains moisturizing glycerin, hydrating hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide to control oil secretion and keep the skin barrier in good shape.

Review after one month of use

If you read my review after a week of using the new No7 Future Renew range, you’ll know that the night cream is my favorite product. The consistency of the gel-cream makes it lightweight but very moisturizing, and I love the subtle hydration it gives my skin, so much so that I apply it under my sunscreen in the mornings, too. Almost a month has passed, morning and night, and the jar is empty. I had high hopes that this would reduce the wrinkles on my forehead, but after 28 days I didn’t notice any changes. However, it worked wonders on the fine lines under my eyes. Now I don’t have to tell you that there is nothing wrong with your skin texture. Fine lines and wrinkles are a normal and natural part of aging, and that’s a privilege. But I love makeup, which often builds up on my wrinkles and makes my skin look dry. Since I’ve been using it, those fine lines have improved and my makeup adheres to my skin better. I also love that it doesn’t make my skin break out like most moisturizers do, so it’s perfect for oily, acne-prone skin. ”

First Check

First I’d like to say that fine lines, wrinkles are absolutely fine. We know that skin aging is inevitable and getting older is a privilege. That’s why I’m glad that there’s no mention of “anti-aging” at all in the new No7 range. Instead, it’s designed to reduce skin damage caused by many different factors, such as pollution or sun exposure. This is achieved through the use of peptides, which are essentially proteins that strengthen the skin.

Despite working in the cosmetics industry, I have to admit that I didn’t take sun protection all that seriously. How could I? I work in an apartment with a large window that gets plenty of sun and I often have to remind myself that long-wave UV rays (the leading cause of premature aging) can penetrate glass. When I turned 30, I noticed more wrinkles on my forehead and under my eyes. When my skin is dehydrated or I don’t use the right moisturizer, my under-eye wrinkles tend to get deeper. Full disclosure: I’ve used “Baby Botox” in the past, but the effects were completely gone, so I was curious how this product line would perform.

First, I went straight for what I consider to be the most hyped serum. After using it morning and night for over a week, I didn’t notice much of a difference in texture on my forehead, but because it’s so comfortable and

Reassuringly, I noticed that the delicate skin under my eyes was less wrinkled and dry than usual, leading to noticeable fine lines. This plumping effect was even more impressive when I used it in conjunction with the eye serum. However

Speaking of the eye area, I don’t think the new Peptide Eye Serum can top the brand’s 2021 Eye Line Correction Enhancer Serum. I saw visible results immediately (and you can, too), thanks to the star ingredient, Matrixyl 3000.

Here you can clearly see it).

I think my favorite product from the new peptide line is the night cream. The gel-cream texture absorbs quickly and leaves my skin with a dewy glow. So much so that I wear it under my sunscreen in the morning. It’s

perfect for my acne-prone skin and I love how it feels: comfortable, hydrating, but not at all heavy.

Now let’s talk about the SPF 40 Day Cream, which, to be honest, I won’t be using in the future because it’s a little too slippery for my oily, acne-prone skin. I only used it once and decided it wasn’t for me. Instead, I stuck with the serum

Or my night cream plus my current mattifying sun protection factor (L’Oréal Revitalift Clinical Vitamin C SPF 50+ Daily UV Protection Liquid). I think I’ll also put the eye serum on hold for now and just use the larger, more worthy face serum.

All in all, I’ll continue using the serum and night cream for the recommended four weeks to see if there’s a noticeable change in my skin. It takes time!

First check

After a particularly intense few months, my diet, fitness, and sleep have all taken a hit, and so has my skin. Now a dry, grey, line-ridden face with two blue bags under my eyes is looking back at me

The mirror opens. So I grabbed these products with both hands, hoping they’ll help me regain my glow.

As a long-time fan of No7 (also known as the Protect & Perfect range), I was excited for these four new products. At first glance, they look pretty much the same as the Protect & Perfect products, although the silver color scheme is more eye-catching.

If you’re a fan of the range, switching is easy. The three-step routine (separate for day and night creams) is short, sweet, and easy to use. The serum is a little thick compared to many similar products on the market, but my dehydrated skin soaked it up. The eye cream feels like most other eye creams I’ve tried, without the immediate tightness, while the day and night creams have a more gel-like consistency that’s perfect for my dry, moisturized, dull complexion. After a week (a short period of time to see if the product is really working), there wasn’t a huge difference, but my face looked a little plumper and felt a little softer. A win is a win. I’ll check back in three weeks to see how it’s doing after a month of use. We’re hoping for some major results.

DQH Knowledge drop: In your 20s, your skin cell turnover decreases. (Cell turnover is a key component in keeping your skin youthful.) You know what else slows down? Your collagen production. Starting in your 20s, collagen decreases by about 1 percent per year. Should you want to prevent fine lines and wrinkles, start by eliminating behaviors that contribute to premature aging. “If it’s bad for you, it’s bad for your skin,” says dermatologist Michel Somenek. “Cigarette smoking reduces blood flow to the skin and causes premature wrinkling and a dull skin texture. Making the repeated pursed motion to inhale can also cause smoker’s lines. Alcohol and recreational drugs are toxins for the skin that damage its cellular structure and DNA,” Somenek tells us. “The faster you eliminate vices while you are young, the better chance your skin and body have to recuperate.” Also, adopting an anti-aging routine in your 20s is key. After all, the best offense is a good defense. We spoke to Somenek and experts Joshua Ross and Audrey Kunin to find out more. Keep reading for the best anti-aging products for your 20s, according to skincare professionals. Sunscreen “We all know that the sun is the number one cause of skin aging and starting the prevention in your 20s is very important,” Ross says. “The majority of your sun damage won’t start to appear until you’re in your 30s, so don’t wait until you see it surface or you’ll be behind the curve. Stay ahead of it with a good-quality zinc-based sunscreen worn daily.” Farmacy Green Defense Daily Mineral Sunscreen An invisible sunscreen with SPF 30, plus botanical extracts meant to protect skin with tons of antioxidants. Bonus: It’s clean and fine to use under makeup. Bareminerals Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Although we recommend you use your SPF and moisturizer separately, we also understand moments when you don’t have time or energy for that extra step. For those times, this bareMinerals moisturizer is a great thing to have on hand. Vitamin C Serum “A great introduction to anti-aging is to start with a vitamin C serum in your morning skincare routine,” Ross says. “It’s a powerful antioxidant that will neutralize free radicals and brighten the skin.” He adds that it’s a great way to counteract the effects of the sun’s harmful rays, which, as previously mentioned, are among the biggest causes of premature aging. Drunk Elephant C-Firma™ Vitamin C Day Serum The Drunk Elephant C-Firma is a lightweight serum that promises to give skin a glow by combining the brightening powers of vitamin C with ferulic acid, l-ascorbic acid, and vitamin E. The included sodium hyaluronate is meant to replace hydration loss, so you shouldn’t have to deal with any irritation. Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum This potent serum is jam-packed with vitamin C (15 percent, to be exact), which means it’s a potential superstar at both brightening skin and dousing it in antioxidants. Peptides Using peptides on your skin has many benefits, says Somenek. “The skin barrier is what defends the body against pollution, UV rays, bacteria, and toxins. It can be damaged by several everyday factors. Using topical peptides aids in building a stronger barrier,” he says. “Peptides comprise elastic fibers, which are a type of protein. These fibers help to make skin appear taut and firm. Peptides can also help repair damaged skin, relieve inflammation, and even out skin tone. Some peptides can kill acne-causing bacteria that is common in 20-somethings.” Kunin agrees, saying, “Peptides are an excellent entry point for supporting collagen.” She recommends looking for face and eye treatments that contain these collagen-boosting powerhouses. Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue Cream This Charlotte Tilbury super-emollient eye cream has a base of coconut oil and shea butter (read: it’s incredibly hydrating). Botanicals plus peptides are meant to help reduce dark circles and boost collagen, respectively. This creamy moisturizer serves up potent collagen-boosting peptides and pycnogenol, and antioxidant-rich vitamin C. “Instead of sitting on top of the skin, peptides penetrate the outer layer so they go deep. The ‘signals’ they send tell the cells to produce elastin and collagen, which are needed for youthful-looking skin,” explains Somenek. At-Home Peel Pads Remember that skin cell turnover fiasco we talked about earlier? One way to help support it is by exfoliating. “Exfoliation is important to help keep skin fresh and luminous,” Kunin says. She recommends using at-home peel pads as an easy and effective way to exfoliate. “The goal in your 20s is to fight the slowing pace of cell turnover. It is wise to use products that gently exfoliate, yet still remove oil and other impurities. Products that have Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) are a good choice.” According to Somenek, you should only exfoliate two to three times a week. “People of all ages are guilty of over-exfoliating and that can be too much of a good thing,” he says. Dermadoctor Kakadu C Intensive Vitamin C Peel Pad A few swipes of this Derma Doctor powerful peel pad promise to leave your skin glowing and smooth, thanks to the seven (yes, seven) types of chemical exfoliants, including AHA and BHA. It also contains vitamin C via Kakadu plum extract for added brightening and antioxidant protection. KEY INGREDIENTS Kakadu plum extract is sourced from the Kakadu plum, a fruit grown in northern Australia. It contains vitamin C, which restores the skin’s natural barrier, increases collagen production, and soothes irritation. Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Universal Daily Peel Pads These are the gold standard of peel pads, with a cult following and over 900 five-star reviews on Sephora. They’re easy to use and contain a blend of anti-aging exfoliating acids. Emollient Night Cream “In your 20s, you need to start upping the hydration in your skincare routine. You may have been cautious of over-moisturizing because of acne in your teens, but as you enter your 20s, your skin transitions and becomes drier,” Ross says. “I recommend an emollient night cream added into your evening skincare regimen.” “Twenty-somethings need to make sure that they are not using creams that will clog their pores and cause excess oil production,” says Somenek. Opt for non-comedogenic products. Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream One great choice is the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream, which is a non-comedogenic night cream that leaves skin soft and glowy. It combines the moisturizing powers of ceramides and hyaluronic acid. RoC Retinol Correxion Max Hydration Creme “The best night cream ingredients contain retinol, benzoyl peroxide, and/or salicylic acid or hyaluronic acid. The goal is to moisturize, yet remove excess oil,” says Somenek. This Roc Retinol Correxion cream fits the bill as it contains both hyaluronic acid and retinol so it promises to moisturize while also being non-comedogenic.
