Top 10 Skincare Brands in the World

There are a lot of top-selling skincare brands in the world listed above. But which ones work the best?

At my dermatology clinic in Miami, I only use medical-grade skincare brands on my patients.

Alastin Skincare – Unique anti-aging technology

Cyspera – Latest in pigmentation technology

Elta MD – Affordable line of physical and chemical sunscreens

Plated Skin Science – Best exosome brand

Reason – Australia’s leading doctor-prescribed brand

Proactiv offers a multi-step acne treatment system that uses benzoyl peroxide to kill acne bacteria. Murad offers an acne kit with salicylic acid and sulfur to cleanse pores.

CeraVe and La Roche-Posay have non-comedogenic formulas that are great for acne-prone skin. Paula’s Choice uses BHAs such as salicylic acid for gentle exfoliation.

Our dermatologists’ favorite acne treatment products:

Best whitening skincare brand

Best luxury skincare brand

Rationale is a luxury skincare brand that’s popular with Australian dermatologists. It’s now the newest luxury skincare brand in the US. Rationale combines scientifically sound findings with luxurious formulas.

Cosmetic chemist Richard Parker is passionate about developing skincare products that really work and that people love to use.

In the video below, I interviewed him about his career and his favorite products.

Best Moisturizer Brands

Before you spend hundreds of dollars on a luxury moisturizer like Crème de la Mer, La Prairie, or Sisley, it’s important to determine your Baumann skin type.

That way, we can help you choose the best moisturizer for you from a wide range of top brands.

At my dermatology clinic in Miami and on the SkinTypeSolutions.com website, the best-selling moisturizer by far is from Zerafite.

It’s especially great for dry skin types due to its superior barrier repair technology. Learn more about barrier repair moisturizers and why the Maltese cross pattern is an important indicator of a top moisturizer.

Korean cosmetic scientist Dr. Jong-Kyung Youm is known for developing some of the best moisturizer brands. He specializes in skin barrier repair.

I interviewed him in the video below to get further insights. He compared leading moisturizers from around the world and studied their Maltese cross patterns to find the best creams.

Best-selling whitening skincare brands

For those looking to reduce dark spots and discoloration, these global skincare brands offer effective skin whitening solutions.

These popular products can be used to treat pigmentation such as melasma.

Cyspera is the newest and most unique best-selling whitening product. This hydroquinone-free product uses the new ingredient cysteamine to whiten the skin.

Obagi uses whitening ingredients to inhibit melanin production.

SkinCeuticals offers an effective vitamin C serum with ferulic acid to brighten the skin and protect against free radicals.

NeoStrata contains glycolic acid exfoliants to exfoliate the skin for a fresher look.

PCA Skin offers many affordable whitening products.

Other top choices include SkinMedica Lytera System, Neocutis Brightening Line, and Jan Marini.

The most interesting skin lightening technology in my opinion is the Alastin brand.

In the video below, I interviewed Dr. Alan Widgerow, the founder of this bestselling brand, about his lightening product, Alastin A-Luminate.

When choosing a quality lightening skincare brand, make sure each product is suitable for your Baumann skin type.

Because using the wrong skincare products can lead to inflammation, which can exacerbate skin pigmentation.

The best melasma skincare brands in the world only work best when combined with the best skincare routine to maximize the effectiveness of each product.

For example, the fatty acids in moisturizers can render lightening ingredients ineffective – so the choice of moisturizer is also crucial.

For patients with dry skin, my favorite moisturizer to use with lightening products is Zerafite Whitening Primer because it contains unsaturated fatty acids that inhibit tyrosinase and enhance the effectiveness of lightening products.

These are the best whitening products in the world for melasma and dark spots.

Best Anti-Aging Skincare Brands in the World

As we age, fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging can be visibly reduced with quality skincare products.

The best anti-aging skincare products fight the causes of skin aging and firm the skin by restoring lost collagen with anti-aging ingredients.

The world’s leading anti-aging skincare brands include:

SkinCeuticals is known for its vitamin C serums and antioxidant protection against free radicals. The company also makes a very effective retinol serum.

SkinMedica is known for its TNS line of growth factors and cytokines that stimulate collagen production.

Revision Skincare contains probiotics and prebiotic enzymes to improve the skin microbiome and peptides to firm the skin.

Zerafite Anti-Wrinkle Barrier Cream is made in Korea and contains anti-aging ingredients to fight cellular aging in dry skin and protect against environmental pollution.

Defensins in DefenAge stimulate LGR6+ stem cells to populate the epidermis with young cells.

Plated Skin Science uses exosomes. Exosomes are the most exciting new anti-aging technology and they can be found in many top brands.

The video below introduces Plated SkinScience technology and I interview founders, cardiologist Dr. Atta Behfar and regenerative medicine scientist Dr. Saranya Wyles.

Best-selling sunscreen brands

Sunscreen is only as good as it is when you wear it! These top brands offer sunscreens you’ll love.

Here are my top picks that use the latest sunscreen technology and feel great on the skin—which is exactly why they’re bestsellers.

Rationale was founded in Australia, where melanoma rates are high, so a good sunscreen is essential. The company developed a sunscreen that works so well that it won the 2024 Oprah Sunscreen Award.

My patients love it! The product that won the Oprah Sunscreen Award is called Rationale #3 The Tinted Serum Broad Spectrum SPF50+.

They also have another sunscreen that feels like a tinted, luxurious face primer: Rationale Beautiful Skin SPF30.

This tinted sunscreen comes in six shades to provide glowing, protected skin for all skin tones. No wonder it’s Australia’s favorite doctor-prescribed brand!

Elta MD was originally founded in a few dermatology clinics and is now a leading affordable sunscreen brand. The selection is so wide that there is a sunscreen for everyone.

Is it reef compatible? Tinted or clear? Chemical or physical? There are many options, including aerosol sprays.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios is one of the best-selling skincare brands. However, the Anthelios SPF in the US is not the same as the one in the French pharmacy.

So if you’re traveling to Europe, buy the better version there.

Pavise – They make a vegan sunscreen with diamonds that has an SPF of 30 and is reef-safe. I love this light sunscreen and it’s a bestseller in my doctor’s office and at Skin Type Solutions.

My patients love that it’s light and you can’t feel the sunscreen on. It’s expensive, but I use it on my face and opt for the cheaper ones for the body.

Why is this the best-selling luxury tinted sunscreen? Watch the video below where I interview founder and scientist Sophie Bai.

DQH Can I use salicylic acid first and then vitamin C? It’s easy to create a skincare routine, but knowing how to use it is another thing entirely. In most cases, if you’re not getting the desired skin results, it could be due to the layering of conflicting ingredients. So, is it possible that salicylic acid and vitamin C are such ingredients? Or are these active ingredients the duo that’s been missing from your skincare routine? If you want answers, stick around because today we are going to explain the benefits of salicylic acid and vitamin C and how they can be used in your daily life. What are the benefits of salicylic acid for skin? Salicylic acid is one of the most commonly used beta hydroxy acids and is favored by many people with oily, acne-prone skin. This acid is derived from willow bark, and unlike its water-soluble relatives (called alpha-hydroxy acids), salicylic acid is oil-soluble, which means it can penetrate deeper into the lower layers of the skin. Once it reaches the lower layers, it can help unclog pores of excess sebum, dirt, bacteria, debris, and impurities. This results in clearer skin tones and greater definition. Not only does salicylic acid benefit the underlying layers, but the outer surface of the skin benefits as well. When applied to the skin, salicylic acid removes the buildup of dead skin cells. This is accomplished by breaking the bonds that hold dead cells to the surface. Over time, this can cause the complexion to look dull and prone to acne, blackheads, and other blemishes. If you’d like to learn more about salicylic acid and how it can improve your skin, check out this dedicated blog post from a beauty insider. What are the benefits of vitamin C for skin? Vitamin C is considered one of the most powerful antioxidants, which means it is very effective at fighting free radicals and preventing them from causing further skin damage. Examples of free radicals include pollution, central heating, UV rays and harsh climate. They attack proteins, fats and cell membranes as soon as they come into contact with the skin, causing signs of premature aging such as fine lines and wrinkles as well as hyperpigmentation, flaky patches of skin and loss of elasticity. Many people usually prefer to use vitamin C in their morning routine as this ingredient gives the complexion a radiant glow. You’ll also find that vitamin C can target areas of hyperpigmentation, plumping the skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The thing about vitamin C is that there are a lot of outdated studies going back to the 1950s that describe vitamin C as an unstable skin component. Thanks to improvements in modern technology, this is no longer the case as all products now contain a stable form of vitamin C. Visit The Beauty Insider to learn more about vitamin C. So please check out our blog post. Can I use salicylic acid first and then vitamin C? Yes, you absolutely can. In fact, it’s thought that using salicylic acid before using vitamin C ensures it penetrates faster and works faster. This is an efficient way to utilize two power sources, and the reason has to do with pH. For example, the skin’s natural pH is about 4.7, making it slightly acidic. Salicylic acid and vitamin C are also both acidic, and you’ll find that vitamin C is absorbed quickly into the skin. Therefore, using salicylic acid beforehand can increase the acidity of the skin and allow vitamin C to penetrate into the skin faster. While this is considered an effective way to combine two powerful ingredients, you need to be aware of your skin type and how it reacts to certain active ingredients. Even people with perfect, normal skin can experience skin sensitivity and irritation. Therefore, always consult a doctor or dermatologist before using any new products on your skin. It’s also important to follow skin application rules. In this case, you need to use the product correctly to ensure you get the best results for your skin. If you’re not sure what I mean, the basic rule for skin is to start with the thinnest consistency and work your way up to the thickest consistency. This prevents a barrier from forming on the surface, preventing other active ingredients from penetrating the skin. Can I use salicylic acid at night and vitamin C in the morning? Yes, absolutely, this is considered the most effective way to get returns without any adverse side effects. This is because there is enough time between applications to ensure that the skin’s pH levels return to balance. You’ll also find that Vitamin C is rich in antioxidants and is perfect for use in the morning to ensure your skin is protected and looking its healthiest. Due to the small size of salicylic acid molecules, it is an acid that is able to reach the deepest parts of the skin. While this is effective at keeping skin clear, it also increases the risk of irritation and photosensitivity. Therefore, many people prefer to use powerful BHAs in their evening routine without exposure to UV rays, pollution, or harsh weather. Warning: If you avoid using sunscreen every day, none of these ingredients will do what your skin needs. The combination of chemical peels and powerful ingredients increases the risk of further damage to the skin’s surface. Use SPF 50 every day to keep your skin protected and your lipid barrier healthy, even on cloudy days, keeping your skin in top condition.
