Top 10 Skincare Brands in the World

Skin care is a huge industry, with people investing more and more in quality products to keep their skin looking youthful and healthy. There are over 25,000 skin care brands in the USA alone. But which skin care brands are the best in the world? I am going to look at skin care brands from the viewpoint of a dermatologist and which brands I see my patients from around the world using. In this blog, I’ll discuss some of the top skincare brands that are popular worldwide for their effective formulas and innovative ingredients. Remember- just because the brand is a bestselling brand does not mean it actually works. I will look at bestselling brands around the world and tell you which are dermatologist recommended and considered medical grade.

Other top global skincare brands include iS Clinical, SkinBetter Science, ZO Skin Health, and Obagi.

best skincare brands to lighten skin

Best Luxury Skin Care Brand

Rationale is a luxurious skin care brand that is a favorite of dermatologists in Australia. It is now the newest luxury skin care brand in the US. Rationale blends real science with luxury formulations. Cosmetic Chemist Richard Parker has a love for creating skin care products that really work that people want to use. I interview him about his background and favorite products in the video below.

Best Moisturizer Brands

Before spending hundreds of dollars on luxury moisturizers like Crème de la Mer, La Prairie, or Sisley, it’s crucial to identify your Baumann Skin Type. This way, we can help you choose the best moisturizer for you from many top brands.

In my dermatology practice in Miami and at SkinTypeSolutions.com, the top-selling moisturizers by far come from Zerafite. Its superior barrier repair technology makes it a favorite for dry skin types. You can read more about barrier repair moisturizers and why the Maltese cross pattern is a key indicator of a top moisturizer.

Dr. Jong-Kyung Youm, a cosmetic scientist in South Korea, is renowned for creating some of the best moisturizer brands. He specializes in skin barrier repair. I interviewed him in the video below to share more insights. He compares top moisturizers from around the world and looks at their maltese cross pattern to see which face cream is best.

Bestselling Skincare Brands To Lighten Skin

For those looking to fade dark spots and discoloration, these global skincare brands offer effective skin lightening solutions.

These popular products can be used to treat forms of hyperpigmentation such as melasma.

Cyspera is the newest and most unique of the bestselling skin lightening products. This hydroquinone free product uses a new ingredient called cysteamine to lighten skin.

Obagi uses skin lightening ingredients to inhibit melanin production.

SkinCeuticals has a potent vitamin C serum with ferulic acid to brighten skin and protect from free radicals.

NeoStrata contains glycolic acid peels to exfoliate and reveal fresher skin.

PCA Skin offers many affordable skin lightening products.

Some other top options are SkinMedica Lytera system, Neocutis Brightening Line, and Jan Marini.

In my opinion, the most interesting skin lightening technology is in the brand Alastin. In the video below I interview Dr. Alan Widgerow- the creator of this bestselling s brand- about his skin lightening product Alastin A-Luminate.

When choosing a good skin care brand to lighten skin, make sure that every product is right for your Baumann Skin Type because using the wrong skin care products for your skin type can lead to inflammation which worsens skin pigmentation.

The best skin care brands in the world for melasma will not work unless they are properly combined into a skin care routine that maximizes how well each product works.

For example, the fatty acids in your moisturizer can inactivate skin lightening ingredients- so even the moisturizer you chose matters. My favorite moisturizer to use with skin lightening products in my dry skin patient’s skin lightening regimens is Zerafite Skin Brightening Barrier Cream because it has unsaturated fatty acids that help inhibit tyrosinase and helps skin lightening products work better.

These are the best skin lightening products in the world to treat melasma and dark spots on the skin.

SkinCeuticals, known for its vitamin C serums and antioxidant defense against aging free radicals. They make very strong retinol serums too.

SkinMedica, popular for its TNS line with growth factors and cytokines to stimulate collagen.

Revision Skincare contains probiotics and prebiotic ferments to improve the skin microbiome and peptides to firm the skin.

Bestselling Sunscreen Brands

Sunscreens only work when you wear them! These top brands have sunscreens you will love to wear. These are my picks of sunscreens that have the latest sun protective technology and are elegant on the skin- which is why they are best sellers.

Rationale- founded in Australia where melanoma rates are very high and good sunscreens are crucial, has a sunscreen that is so good it won the Oprah sunscreen award in 2024. My patients love it! The one that won the Oprah sunscreen award is called Rationale #3 The Tinted Serum Broad Spectrum SPF50+. They have another sunscreen that feels like a tinted luxurious facial foundation. It is called Rationale Beautiful Skin SPF30. This tinted sunscreen comes in 6 colors to make all skin color have glowing protected skin. No wonder this is the top physician dispensed brand in Australia!

Elta MD started out in a few dermatologist’s offices and now is the top affordable sunscreen brand. They have so many different options that everyone can find a sunscreen for their needs. Reef safe? Tinted or untinted? Chemical or physical? They have many options including an aerosol spray.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios is one of the best selling skincare brands. However, the Anthelios SPF in the USA is not the same as the ones you can find in french pharmacies. So if you go to Europe, stock up on the better version there.

Pavise- They make a vegan sunscreen that contains diamonds and is SPF 30 and reef safe. I love this light sheer sunscreen that is a bestseller in my medical practice and here at Skin Type Solutions. My patients love that it is so light that you do not feel like you have a sunscreen on. It is expensive, but I use it on my face and choose a more affordable one for my body. Why is this the number one selling luxury non-tinted sunscreen? See the video below in which I interview the founder Scientist Sophie Bai.

DQH Can I use salicylic acid first and then vitamin C? It’s easy to create a skincare routine, but knowing how to use it is another thing entirely. In most cases, if you’re not getting the desired skin results, it could be due to the layering of conflicting ingredients. So, is it possible that salicylic acid and vitamin C are such ingredients? Or are these active ingredients the duo that’s been missing from your skincare routine? If you want answers, stick around because today we are going to explain the benefits of salicylic acid and vitamin C and how they can be used in your daily life. What are the benefits of salicylic acid for skin? Salicylic acid is one of the most commonly used beta hydroxy acids and is favored by many people with oily, acne-prone skin. This acid is derived from willow bark, and unlike its water-soluble relatives (called alpha-hydroxy acids), salicylic acid is oil-soluble, which means it can penetrate deeper into the lower layers of the skin. Once it reaches the lower layers, it can help unclog pores of excess sebum, dirt, bacteria, debris, and impurities. This results in clearer skin tones and greater definition. Not only does salicylic acid benefit the underlying layers, but the outer surface of the skin benefits as well. When applied to the skin, salicylic acid removes the buildup of dead skin cells. This is accomplished by breaking the bonds that hold dead cells to the surface. Over time, this can cause the complexion to look dull and prone to acne, blackheads, and other blemishes. If you’d like to learn more about salicylic acid and how it can improve your skin, check out this dedicated blog post from a beauty insider. What are the benefits of vitamin C for skin? Vitamin C is considered one of the most powerful antioxidants, which means it is very effective at fighting free radicals and preventing them from causing further skin damage. Examples of free radicals include pollution, central heating, UV rays and harsh climate. They attack proteins, fats and cell membranes as soon as they come into contact with the skin, causing signs of premature aging such as fine lines and wrinkles as well as hyperpigmentation, flaky patches of skin and loss of elasticity. Many people usually prefer to use vitamin C in their morning routine as this ingredient gives the complexion a radiant glow. You’ll also find that vitamin C can target areas of hyperpigmentation, plumping the skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The thing about vitamin C is that there are a lot of outdated studies going back to the 1950s that describe vitamin C as an unstable skin component. Thanks to improvements in modern technology, this is no longer the case as all products now contain a stable form of vitamin C. Visit The Beauty Insider to learn more about vitamin C. So please check out our blog post. Can I use salicylic acid first and then vitamin C? Yes, you absolutely can. In fact, it’s thought that using salicylic acid before using vitamin C ensures it penetrates faster and works faster. This is an efficient way to utilize two power sources, and the reason has to do with pH. For example, the skin’s natural pH is about 4.7, making it slightly acidic. Salicylic acid and vitamin C are also both acidic, and you’ll find that vitamin C is absorbed quickly into the skin. Therefore, using salicylic acid beforehand can increase the acidity of the skin and allow vitamin C to penetrate into the skin faster. While this is considered an effective way to combine two powerful ingredients, you need to be aware of your skin type and how it reacts to certain active ingredients. Even people with perfect, normal skin can experience skin sensitivity and irritation. Therefore, always consult a doctor or dermatologist before using any new products on your skin. It’s also important to follow skin application rules. In this case, you need to use the product correctly to ensure you get the best results for your skin. If you’re not sure what I mean, the basic rule for skin is to start with the thinnest consistency and work your way up to the thickest consistency. This prevents a barrier from forming on the surface, preventing other active ingredients from penetrating the skin. Can I use salicylic acid at night and vitamin C in the morning? Yes, absolutely, this is considered the most effective way to get returns without any adverse side effects. This is because there is enough time between applications to ensure that the skin’s pH levels return to balance. You’ll also find that Vitamin C is rich in antioxidants and is perfect for use in the morning to ensure your skin is protected and looking its healthiest. Due to the small size of salicylic acid molecules, it is an acid that is able to reach the deepest parts of the skin. While this is effective at keeping skin clear, it also increases the risk of irritation and photosensitivity. Therefore, many people prefer to use powerful BHAs in their evening routine without exposure to UV rays, pollution, or harsh weather. Warning: If you avoid using sunscreen every day, none of these ingredients will do what your skin needs. The combination of chemical peels and powerful ingredients increases the risk of further damage to the skin’s surface. Use SPF 50 every day to keep your skin protected and your lipid barrier healthy, even on cloudy days, keeping your skin in top condition.
